Transitioning to a more sustainable world is one of the most challenging problems that humanity is facing. This challenge is especially large for the urban areas in our world. Cities consume over two-thirds of the world's energy and account for more than 70% of global CO2 emissions. Transforming cities into more sustainable places is therefore an important step towards a greener future.
The municipality of Amsterdam is working hard to make our beautiful city more sustainable and future-proof. Goals set by the Amsterdam municipality is to reduce CO2 emissions with 55% by 2030, and 95% by 2050. By 2050, the city should be climate neutral, climate adaptable, and circular. With these ambitious goals, the question arises what the municipality should do to achieve this, and what impact this will have on Amsterdam citizens.
On Thursday June 17th at 20:00, the CIA is inviting Amsterdam policy makers and academics to talk about the ambitious Amsterdam climate goals and the ways to achieve these goals. What does a climate neutral city look like? How can Amsterdam transition from fossil fuels to green energy? And what does doughnut economics have to do with this? All these questions will be answered in this event!
