Overview

AmsterMUN 2025 will be the inaugural international Model United Nations conference organised by the experienced members of the MUNDUNSA delegation in the wonderful capital of the Netherlands: Amsterdam, during the peak of the local Sinterklass festivities.

It will be a three-day conference where participants can practice negotiation, debate and work on a range of different international issues facing our world. Everyone from experienced to first-time delegates are welcome to this conference, which will have topics and committees suited to every level.

The theme of AmsterMUN 2025: Rising Tides; Rising Tensions. Reflects both Amsterdam's uniquely close connection to the sea, shown even in the cityscape's many canals, while simultaneously emphasising the challenges facing our world of climate change and increased threats to peace. We hope AmsterMUN will be a step in your journey to contribute to a better world, which can avert these challenges once and for all.

Included for all participants, beyond an enlightening and rewarding conference, will be:

  • Two socials to let off steam and network after committees
  • Lunches and coffee/tea breaks to keep your energy up
  • A goodie bag full of swag
  • A look inside the University of Amsterdam, one of the foremost educational institutions in the world
  • An unforgettable experience
  • More perks to be announced…

If you apply and are accepted as a chair at the conference, you will be provided with accommodation in Amsterdam if necessary, as well as all the other perks of participation for free. If you would like to chair, sign up sooner rather than later for a better chance of securing a spot, as spots will start being filled before the application deadline.

The conference will start around midday on Friday, December 5 2025, and end in the afternoon of Sunday, December 7 2025.

The core values of AmsterMUN that we strive for in how we organise this conference are: Professionalism, learning through practice, excellence in academics, respect and accessibility for all, addressing the common challenges of humanity, and finally, that all of this is done in a fun and rewarding way.

UN General Assembly

The General Assembly is the main body of the UN for policy and debate, where every country is represented. It writes resolutions on broad and non-technical questions, making it a suitable committee for beginners. The exact topic will be decided by the chairs, but will be a broad and internationally relevant question related to our theme: Rising Tides; Rising Tensions.

UN Human Rights Council

The United Nations Human Rights Council is the main body of the UN tasked with promoting and protecting human rights around the world. The exact topic will be decided by the chairs, but will be an internationally relevant human rights question related to our theme: Rising Tides; Rising Tensions.

ECOSOC

ECOSOC is the organ tasked with coordinating the UN's economic and social activities. With a broad range of voices and somewhat technical topic, ECOSOC is well suited for both beginner and intermediate delegates. The exact topic will be decided by the chairs, but it will be an internationally relevant question of development or economy related to our theme: Rising Tides; Rising Tensions.

European Council

The European Council is one of the principal institutions of the EU. Here, Heads of State and Government from all EU countries meet and decide on both the long-term strategy of the EU and solve crises that face the Union. The EC requires delegates to represent a national leader on a more precise issue and is therefore suited to intermediate delegates. The exact topic will be decided by the chairs, but will be a topic of the EU's competences related to our theme: Rising Tides; Rising Tensions.

UN Security Council

The UNSC is the body of the UN which is tasked with upholding international peace and security. It is the only UN body which can take legally binding decisions or authorise the use of force, but often deadlocks due to the veto right of the 5 permanent members. Due to its special rules and tough-to-navigate topics, it is best suited for more experienced delegates. The exact topic will be decided by the chairs, but will be an internationally relevant question of peace and security related to our theme: Rising Tides; Rising Tensions.

International Court of Justice

The International Court of Justice, situated in the Hague, is the UN body which adjudicates disputes between countries and gives opinions on international legal questions. In MUN this committee is basically an internationally flavoured moot court. Due to its very technical nature and specific rules, the ICJ is best suited for more experienced delegates. The exact case will be decided by the chairs, but will be an international legal dispute related to our theme: Rising Tides; Rising Tensions.

Historical Crisis

The historical crisis is a unique committee that will put you in the shoes of a historical character in the middle of a pivotal time in history and give you the opportunity to change the past to your character's benefit. A crisis committee trains your quick thinking, creativity, and political savviness.
