Dystopia from 1940s - Lit society SIB Amsterdam

  • SIB Amsterdam 170 Nieuwe Achtergracht Amsterdam, NH, 1018 WV Netherlands (map)

As the Lit Society, every month we decide on a book to read together and then discuss it in our meetings. For the introduction week, we will read one of the most famous dystopian classics: 1984. After the tragic events of the 1940s, George Orwell constructs 1984 as a warning of what can happen if societies make the same mistake again and let authoritarian regimes take away their freedoms slowly, one by one. Therefore, we believe that 1984 is a good choice to read as a book from the 1940s. In our meeting, we will discuss our opinions and insights on the book and comment on possible interpretations. We invite you all to read this masterpiece and join our discussion to exchange opinions with others and experience how Lit Society meetings are going. The meeting will be on the 3rd of March at 17:300, at Lebkov at UvA Roeterseilandcampus!
